Background

The ASEAN region is undergoing profound changes that are reshaping security across multiple dimensions. These include migration, border management, human security, disaster management, climate change, human trafficking, and public policy. As these issues are deeply interconnected, addressing them effectively requires close cooperation among governments, academic institutions, civil society, and international partners.

The ASEAN Security & Migration Community (ASMC) was established as an academic community that brings together researchers, academics, students, policymakers, and practitioners from across ASEAN and the international community. Its mission is to facilitate knowledge exchange, disseminate research, and strengthen academic collaboration through an accessible digital platform that supports learning, networking, and the development of innovative solutions to regional security and migration challenges.

Objective

  • 1. Promote research collaboration across ASEAN.
  • 2. Support the development of early-career researchers.
  • 3. Strengthen connections between researchers and policymakers.
  • 4. Develop an open-access academic database to facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • 5. Contribute to enhancing regional security and improving the quality of life of people across the ASEAN region.
